Listen to your body.

The human body is built for movement yet, in today's world, the body remains in the same static position a large percentage of the day. This lack of movement can lead to a variety of aches and pains. Varier's Thasit Balans allows the body the movement it craves - it's the chair your body has been asking for.

Based on the original Balans seating ideals of Peter Opsvik, the Thatsit Balans opens the angle between the thighs and upper body. The spine is free to find its natural curve and the body easily glides into an alert posture - improving blood flow and aiding concentration. When the spine is positioned in its natural curvature, breathing is enhanced and pressure is relieved from the vertebrae.

The adjustable backrest makes relaxation just a tilt away. Lean back and place the elbows on the "wings" of the backrest, stretching the torso and allowing for deep, free breathing. The backrest is an ideal option for those that may spend extended periods at a work table or desk.

As versatile in design as in concept, the Thatsit Balans is the perfect instrument for the ever-changing demands of today's work places and lifestyles. Work becomes a breeze as the upright, "alert" posture promotes concentration and activity. The benefits are not just for adults, as the posture, breathing, and energy enhancements of active sitting have been directly correlated with improved homework performance in adolescents. With adjustable knee pads, the Thatsit Balans easily adjusts for users of varying heights.

Humans were created to move, not to sit still.

"I believe that the spine is happiest when it can adopt the natural curvature that it has when we stand upright" -Peter Opsvik

No scientific evidence supports the notion that the "correct" sitting posture is upright, at a right angle. In fact, studies are now revealing that the body operates best when its form is allowed to remain open and fluid.

The Varier Thatsit Balans helps to achieve just that. Forward-sloped seats on curved runners support the body in a seated, kneeling position. This allows the angle between the thighs and torso to increase, allowing the body to naturally adopt the same spine curvature as when standing, relieving pressure from the vertebrae and letting you breathe more deeply and freely.

The Thatsit Balans promotes constant natural movement, keeping the back and abdominal muscles active at all times. While sitting, the user is actually strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and back while preventing tension in the neck and shoulders.

Some seating options also incorporate a backrest that is ideal for extended periods of tasking that requires the user to be seated. Tilt forward for labor-intensive activities, and rock back for relaxation breaks. Regardless of the position, the spine will always be supported perfectly.

This "active sitting" improves circulation and oxygen levels, boosting energy, concentration, and overall well-being.

Best Chair Ever September 9, 2014
Reviewer: Partha Mohanram from Toronto, ON
I got this back after I was diagnosed with a herniated disc. The impact of the "dynamic seating" on my well being was immediate. It is so comfortable that you dont even know that you are sitting - its almost like floating. My Herman Miller Aeron sits idly now - I use this all the time

Possibly the perfect chair? July 11, 2013
Reviewer: Ken Gordon from Portland Oregon
I've never met a chair quite like this one.  I had one of the shorter-framed Balans chairs in the 80's and absolutely loved it.

When I was back in the market for a new chair this spring, Justin in the Ergo Depot sales department convinced me that the That Sit was actually more appropriate for me since I am 6'2".  And boy was he right!  The longer frame and amplified distance between the knee and seat pads fit my body beautifully.  The controls can even extend a little farther if you're taller, and of course they collapse quite a bit for shorter people.

Feels great, and I'm using this for my all day chair now since it keeps my back nice and limber.

Excellent chair: really good for my back October 19, 2011
Reviewer: Robert Beatty from Portland Oregon
I have had this chair for a month.  I got it to replace a chair I have sat in for years. My work requires me to spend hours a day facing a client and attending carefully.

The change was immediate.  I became aware of some ways that I was holding my neck and back that contributed  to a chronic discomfort.

The idea that the human body is designed to move really makes a lot more sense to me now. Even though I still spend frequent periods of an hour being present with counseling clients, the chair allows and encourages me to move and shift position frequently.

Best thing I have done for my body in a long time.
